    Like the athletes he once represented, Jeff Moorad is attempting to take another step up an organizational ladder.

    Moorad, a one-time super agent, resigned from the Diamondbacks' ownership group Jan. 2 in order to pursue the acquisition of the San Diego Padres from owner John Moores, who recently hired the firm of Goldman Sachs to search for a potential buyer. Moores is involved in divorce proceedings.

    Moorad was one of five D-backs' ownership partners, including managing general partner Ken Kendrick, Dale Jensen, Mike Chipman and Jeff Royer. Moorad will have to sell his small interest in the D-backs if he is successful in purchasing the Padres.

Moorad said Friday he heads a "small but significant" group of investors that has an exclusive right to complete the specifics of negotiations with Padres owner John Moores.

    Looking to lock up another regular, the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a three-year contract with catcher Chris Snyder. The deal is worth a reported $14.5 million and runs through 2011 with a club option for the 2012 season. It follows Arizona's multiyear contracts with players such as center fielder Chris Young and pitcher Dan Haren, infielder Chad Tracy and outfielder Eric Byrnes.
