Mets Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
The Mets have renovated their pitching staff, highlighted by bringing in Francisco Rodriguez and J.J. Putz at the back end of the bullpen. But they have largely stood pat with their bats.
So far the only turnover among the position players has been letting backup Damion Easley walk as a free agent and swapping backup outfielder Jeremy Reed for Endy Chavez in the 13-player, three-team deal that also landed Putz.
The Mets had a $143 million payroll last season, and team officials suggest it's unlikely to rise in 2009. The team only had a net of $26 million coming off the books after last season, and it cleared another $2 million by trading Aaron Heilman to Seattle. K-Rod and Putz will earn a combined $14 million in the upcoming season.
