  • Jazz Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Somewhere, ESPN.com columnist Bill Simmons should be tuned into Wednesday night's Jazz-Hornets game. It was Simmons, after all, who gave the Deron Williams/Chris Paul rivalry a new dimension before the season.

Simmons slammed Williams in ESPN magazine's NBA preview, which happened to have Williams and Paul sharing the cover. Williams called Paul the best pure point guard of his lifetime, "a classier Isiah (Thomas) with a better jumper."

"Comparing him with Deron Williams is like comparing Pearl Jam to Stone Temple Pilots," Simmons wrote. "Don't waste your time."

The comments drew much attention in Salt Lake City, though Williams missed 13 of the Jazz's first 15 games thanks to the ankle he sprained in the preseason.

    But Williams has come around...

  • Williams helps Jazz hold off Warriors (AP)

Golden State Warriors guard Jamal Crawford, left, gets to the basket past Utah Jazz center Mehmet Okur, of Turkey, during the second half of an NBA basketball game Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, in Salt Lake City. The Jazz beat the Warriors 119-114.

Paul Millsap is helping the Utah Jazz get by without Carlos Boozer. Millsap scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds to lead the Jazz to a 119-114 victory over the Warriors on Monday night. It was his 18th consecutive double-double in place of Boozer, who has missed 23 straight games since injuring his left knee on Nov.

  • Bryant scores 40 points in Lakers' win (AP)

Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom (7) goes up for a shot as Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap defends during the second half of an NBA basketball game, Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, in Los Angeles. The Lakers won 113-100.

Sure, Kobe Bryant scored 40 points, but it was Trevor Ariza's quick hands that saved the Los Angeles Lakers. Ariza came up with two of his season-high five steals in the last 2:22 and scored two fast-break baskets to help the Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 113-100 Friday night for their fifth straight win and 17th in 18 home games.

  • Boozer to have arthroscopic surgery on left knee (AP)Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Boozer has missed 21 straight games because of a strained quad tendon he sustained during a game against Milwaukee on Nov. 19. The Jazz said in a statement Tuesday that a date for the surgery has not been set, but doctors said it likely wouldn't occur until Jan.
  • Jazz F Boozer to undergo knee surgery (PA SportsTicker)Already struggling to stay afloat in the Western Conference, the Utah Jazz will be without their top scorer for the foreseeable future.

  • Williams leads short-handed Jazz over 76ers (AP)

Philadelphia 76ers forward Thaddeus Young, right, tries to block the shot of Utah Jazz guard C.J. Miles during the second half of an NBA basketball game Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, in Salt Lake City. The Jazz beat the 76ers 112-95.

Utah's power players are hurting, and Deron Williams has been for most of the season. Williams got out of bed Monday feeling his best and made sure the reeling Philadelphia 76ers knew it. He scored 27 points to help the short-handed Jazz beat Philadelphia 112-95. "It's probably the first time all season I've felt 100 percent, or close to it," Williams said.

  • Report: Mixed results from NBA player charities (AP)NBA players who set up charitable foundations don't always contribute as much as expected because of poor management and the high cost of fundraisers. The analysis was made by The Salt Lake Tribune, which studied tax records filed by NBA player charities. It analyzed 89 stand-alone NBA player charities and published the results in a series of stories Sunday.
  • Yao, Artest carry Rockets past undermanned Jazz (AP)

Houston Rockets head coach Rick Adelman argues with referee Pat Fraher in the second half of their NBA basketball game against the Utah Jazz in Houston, Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008.

The Houston Rockets acquired Ron Artest to win games like this. Artest scored 10 of his 28 points in the second overtime and the Rockets recovered from blowing a 16-point lead in the second half to beat the Utah Jazz 120-115 on Saturday night. Yao Ming had 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Rockets, who led 59-43 early in the third quarter, then went 3-for-18 from the field in the fourth to...

  • Koufos scores career-high 18 in Utah win (AP)

Utah Jazz center Kosta Koufos (41) shoots against Dallas Mavericks forward Brandon Bass (32) during the fourth quarter of the NBA basketball game Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, in Salt Lake City. Koufos finished the night with 18 points. The Jazz defeated the Mavericks 97-88.

Running out of forwards and centers, the Utah Jazz turned to rookie Kosta Koufos and seldom-used Kyrylo Fesenko. Both came through with career high scoring nights and anchored a patchwork lineup as Utah beat the weary Dallas Mavericks 97-88 on Friday night. Koufos scored 18 points and Fesenko added eight points as the short-handed Jazz pulled ahead early and never gave up the lead, ending Dallas'...

  • Jazz F Millsap out 7-10 days (PA SportsTicker)Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap will miss seven to 10 days with a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the team announced on Friday.
  • Millsap out with sprained ligament (AP)Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap will miss seven to 10 days because of a sprained knee ligament. He injured his left knee Tuesday night in Milwaukee, but returned to play the second half in a brace. Millsap is scheduled for another MRI on Monday. Millsap's string of 15 straight double-doubles ended Tuesday.
  • Medal to mettle: Olympics were boon for NBA stars (AP) Kobe Bryant is still fueled by the memory. He was on a bus in China six months ago after the U.S. Olympic basketball team defeated Spain to win the gold medal at the Beijing Games. Even now, Bryant can close his eyes and see LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Jason Kidd, whooping and hollering, nary a care in the world.
  • Redd leads Bucks to fifth win in 6 games (AP)

Milwaukee Bucks' Michael Redd (22) knocks the ball away from Utah Jazz's Andrei Kirilenko (47), of Russia, during the second half of an NBA basketball game Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in Milwaukee. The Bucks won 94-86.

The Milwaukee Bucks shot 1-of-16 from 3-point range and 39 percent from the field. That probably would have meant a blowout loss not long ago. Not anymore. Michael Redd scored 27 points Tuesday night to lead the surging Bucks to their third win in a row and fifth in six games, 94-86 over the Utah Jazz.
