Haslett: Jackson injury related to holdout (AP)Steven Jackson's persistent thigh injury is no surprise to St. Louis Rams coach Jim Haslett, who factored in down time after the running back's 27-day training camp holdout. "It happens all the time," Haslett said. "You can run all you want, you can lift weights all you want, but until you put pads on and you actually cut and move at full speed, you can't replicate that until you actually do it."...

Rams Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
It's been obviously very ugly for the Rams over the last three games, with incredibly bad stretches of football. With the Bears coming to St. Louis this week, coach Jim Haslett has to try and find a way to get his team to be competitive for four quarters.
Asked what has gone wrong, Haslett said. "We have had five turnovers in one half and three in another. If you look at the stats the second half, it wasn't like San Francisco was cashing it in on us doing a double reverses and throwing the ball and everything else. We scored 13 and they scored none. They had 67 yards of offense in the second half on 38 plays and we had 200 yards of offense. We had 200 in the first half and (quarterback) Marc (Bulger) was 12-19 in the first half.

Bulger backing Haslett for 2009 (AP)Rams coach Jim Haslett has stayed in Marc Bulger's corner, refusing to switch quarterbacks during a horrible stretch of play. Bulger returned the favor Wednesday, saying he and many teammates want Haslett back next season. "He's been dealt a bad deck of cards," Bulger said. "He's doing all he can to get us going, to motivate us.

St. Louis also lost right guard Richie Incognito with a strained rotator cuff just before halftime.

Niners snap 6-game skid vs. Rams (AP)

After Shaun Hill flung himself across the goal line to score the third touchdown in the 49ers' 28-point second quarter, he flipped the ball to center Eric Heitmann for the celebratory spike. Humbled and educated by several seasons as a backup, Hill just doesn't see himself as an extraordinary Joe -- even though Joe Montana is the only other San Francisco quarterback who ever did what Hill...

Holt looking forward to seeing Bruce (AP)Torry Holt learned how to be a professional receiver from Isaac Bruce, a mentor he will reconnect with Sunday. The Rams released Bruce last spring in a salary cap move and Bruce moved on to San Francisco. The Rams go there Sunday to meet the 49ers in a renewal of one of the NFL's top rivalries that loses some luster this year as both teams are 2-7.

NTs Jenkins, Wilfork play big roles for Jets, Pats (AP)

They are 675 pounds of men in the middle, two massive human detour signs that force running backs in another direction. Nose tackles Kris Jenkins of the New York Jets and Vince Wilfork of the New England Patriots are there to make sure much smaller players get stopped soon after they take a handoff. Two huge men -- the relatively svelte Wilfork is about 25 pounds lighter -- with a big job.

Jones, defense lead Jets to largest win in history (AP)

Brett Favre hung out on the New York Jets' sideline after calling it an early day, relishing a rout that was unlike any other in franchise history. "It's proof positive of what this team is capable of being," Favre said. The dominant Jets took advantage of every mistake by the St. Louis Rams, making their 47-3 rout Sunday look more like a scrimmage than an NFL game.
