The Oilers on Tuesday righted a ship that had been taking on serious water.
After three straight losses, each one worse than the one before it, the Oilers appeared to be in serious trouble. They were lifeless in Monday's 4-0 loss to Detroit, and there were concerns that the coaching staff had been tuned out.
But the Oilers rebounded nicely against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, erupting for their largest goal output of the season in a 7-2 win.
"It's just a good feeling to come out of here with a win in pretty desperate times," said head coach Craig MacTavish. "We haven't won a game like that this year. The last few days have been pretty good for Ty Conklin. The Detroit Red Wings backup goaltender has started and won two consecutive games, sandwiched around the birth of his third child. Conklin made 20 saves for his fifth career shutout Monday night, Jiri Hudler and Niklas Kronwall each had a goal and an assist and Detroit beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-0.

The Colorado Avalanche took advantage of a rare three-man advantage to beat the Edmonton Oilers. Darcy Tucker scored the tying goal with 10.7 seconds in regulation and added the winner in the fifth round of the shootout in the Avs' 3-2 victory Saturday night. The Edmonton Oilers' longest road trip of the season produced a winning record and a new force in goal. In his second start in two days, rookie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers made 40 saves through overtime and then went 3-for-3 in the shootout to lift the Oilers to a 3-2 victory over the Rangers on Monday night.
