The Coyotes need to look at their forthcoming road trip as the possible turning point for the early part of the season.
After losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in a shootout, the Coyotes (8-8-1) play four straight away from Jobing.com Arena.
A positive sign that could be taken from the loss is that the Coyotes scored two power-play goals. Entering the game 27th in the league, they scored twice with a man advantage as a new wrinkle added by coach Wayne Gretzky paid off. Improvement on the special teams could be a determining factor in a winning road trip. Olli Jokinen and the Phoenix Coyotes overcame a rough start to stop the NHL's top team. Jokinen had two goals and an assist Sunday night and the Coyotes came back from an early two-goal deficit to beat San Jose 4-2, snapping the Sharks' seven-game winning streak. Playing against his former Florida teammates and several friends, Jokinen capitalized on the moment and had a goal and an assist to lead the Coyotes to a 4-1 win over the Panthers on Saturday night. Jokinen was traded from Florida to Phoenix for defensemen Keith Ballard and Nick Boynton during the offseason.
